Fighting For The Visibility And Rights Of LGBTIQ+ Africans
Many LGBTIQ+ Africans face discrimination, violence, persecution, stigma and exclusion on a daily basis – from family members, employers, places of worship and the society at large. These forms of hostility tend to take a negative toil on the physical, social and mental health and wellbeing of the LGBTIQ+ population.
However, discrimination and hostility towards LGBTIQ+ Africans are not restricted to the continent but can also be found within the Austrian LGBTIQ+ communities, in and around African LGBTIQ+ communities in Austria and throughout various sectors such as employment, education and health care. How can we create more awareness for the intersectionality of racism and homo-/bi-/transphobia? How can we empower the fight for visibility and rights of LGBTIQ+ Africans? How can we join forces and work towards a supportive and inclusive society?
